More than 20 children were hospitalised in Telangana’s Rajanna Sircilla

Over 20 Children Fall Ill After Eating Panipuri in Telangana

A suspected case of food poisoning has raised concerns in Telangana after more than 20 children were hospitalised in Rajanna Sircilla district following the consumption of panipuri purchased from a local street vendor. The incident reportedly occurred in KCR Nagar of Thangallapally Mandal, where several children began experiencing severe health issues hours after eating the popular snack.

According to local reports, the children consumed panipuri on Monday evening. By the early hours of the following day, many of them developed symptoms including stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, and nausea, prompting worried parents to seek immediate medical attention.

Children Admitted to Government and Private Hospitals

As the number of affected children continued to rise throughout the day, families rushed them to the District Government Hospital in Rajanna Sircilla and nearby private healthcare facilities. Health officials confirmed that most of the children are receiving treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.

Initial reports suggested that around 15 children fell ill, but subsequent updates indicated that the number of affected individuals had increased to more than 20, with some reports placing the figure closer to 25, including a few adults who also consumed the food.

Authorities Launch Investigation

Following the incident, local authorities and food safety officials initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the illness. Samples of the panipuri and ingredients used by the vendor have reportedly been collected for laboratory testing. Officials are examining whether contaminated water, unhygienic food handling practices, or spoiled ingredients may have contributed to the suspected food poisoning.

Police have also questioned the vendor involved in the incident as part of the ongoing inquiry. No official confirmation has yet been made regarding the precise source of contamination.

Growing Concerns Over Street Food Safety

The incident has reignited discussions around street food hygiene and public health standards in Telangana. Food safety experts often warn that improperly stored ingredients, contaminated water, and poor sanitation practices can significantly increase the risk of foodborne illnesses, especially during warmer months.

Authorities have advised residents to exercise caution while consuming street food and to report any suspected cases of food contamination immediately.

Health Officials Monitoring Situation

Medical teams continue to monitor the condition of the affected children while awaiting laboratory test results. Officials have assured the public that necessary measures will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of food safety compliance among street vendors and the need for regular inspections to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
