New Delhi: Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has described Hajj 2026 as the most successful Hajj operation in India’s history, citing significant improvements in pilgrim safety, digital services, accommodation management, and overall coordination between Indian and Saudi authorities. He also announced that the government will unveil a new Hajj policy in the coming weeks to further strengthen pilgrimage arrangements for future years.
Hajj 2026 Sets New Benchmarks
Speaking after a review meeting, Rijiju highlighted that India’s Hajj management system witnessed unprecedented success this year. According to the minister, enhanced coordination among the Ministries of Minority Affairs, External Affairs, Civil Aviation, and Health played a crucial role in ensuring a smoother pilgrimage experience for over 1.75 lakh Indian pilgrims.
One of the most notable achievements was the sharp reduction in pilgrim fatalities compared to previous years. The minister stated that the mortality rate declined significantly, reflecting improvements in healthcare support, monitoring systems, and on-ground assistance.
Digital Transformation Improves Pilgrim Experience
The Government of India introduced several technology-driven initiatives during Hajj 2026, including:
- Enhanced digital services through the Haj Suvidha platform
- Smart wristbands for pilgrim tracking and emergency assistance
- Improved communication and grievance redressal systems
- Better health monitoring and safety support
- Introduction of a short-duration Hajj option for eligible pilgrims
These initiatives were aimed at making the pilgrimage safer, more convenient, and more accessible for Indian pilgrims.
New Hajj Policy Expected Soon
Rijiju confirmed that the government is working on a revised Hajj policy that will address evolving requirements of pilgrims and align with updated guidelines from Saudi Arabia. The upcoming policy is expected to focus on:
- Greater digitization of the application process
- Improved accommodation standards
- Enhanced support for senior citizens
- Better coordination with tour operators
- Streamlined payment and registration systems
- Stronger compliance with Saudi timelines and regulations
The minister emphasized that future Hajj operations will continue to prioritize transparency, efficiency, and pilgrim welfare.
India’s Largest Hajj Operations Continue to Expand
India remains one of the largest contributors of Hajj pilgrims globally. For Hajj 2026, approximately 175,025 Indian pilgrims were expected to undertake the sacred journey, supported through extensive logistical arrangements across multiple embarkation points nationwide.
The government has also worked closely with Saudi authorities to ensure timely visa processing, accommodation allocation, transportation management, and healthcare services throughout the pilgrimage season.
Looking Ahead
With Hajj 2026 being hailed as a landmark success, the forthcoming Hajj policy is expected to build upon this momentum and further modernize India’s pilgrimage management framework. Stakeholders anticipate that the new policy will introduce additional reforms aimed at enhancing convenience, safety, and service quality for future pilgrims.
